Run Leader & Coach

Why Orchard Eagles Running Club?
I love being an Eagle as it is an inclusive club that welcomes all abilities. This club is big part of my local community.

Why did you start running?
I started running in 2009 to keep both mentally and physically fit. In 2014 I joined The Eagles. Prior to this I mostly ran with my mother and my sister – I come from a family of runners!

What is your proudest running achievement?
Well, one of my proudest moments was when I finished my very first London marathon in 2012. It was made all the more special as I had been coached by my mother. Another proud time was running every day through the pandemic for 500 days! Sean and I did this together – it was good to do it with someone so we could encourage each other and keep each other motivated. I really loved having so many great people join me on my running streak, and especially the final run down at the Tees Barrage.

Which is your favourite distance?
I love marathon distance. But, to be honest, I also really enjoy half, 10k and 5k! So far, I have completed 18 official marathons and 2 official ultras!

When did you become a Run Leader?
In 2016. I really enjoyed the new challenge of supporting people and particularly enjoy leading structured speed and hill sessions.

Tell us something interesting about yourself
I follow a strict vegan diet and believe good eating enhances my running as well as my mental and physical well-being.

Do you have any favourite quotes?
Yes! You will often hear my encouraging people with, “Fly high!” and, “The hills have eyes!”.

What is your day job?
I am a registered adult and mental health nurse and lecturer in nursing at the University of York.
