Run Leader

Back in 2016, I was 3 ½ stone overweight and it was starting to affect my well-being. Through patent dieting, I managed to get down to a healthy weight. I still needed to get fit and bumped into an old school friend at Christmas 2017 who introduced me first to Parkrun, and then to the Eagles (thanks Mike!)

In 2019, at the Eagles annual AGM, I was over the moon to accept the ‘Most improved Male’ award. As an ex couch potato, who had never got a sporting trophy ever before, it meant the absolute world to me…I’m beaming on the photo!

I was ‘persuaded’ to do the Yorkshire Marathon in 2019. I never envisioned I would ever run a marathon and was so happy that I did this event. I actually just love turning up at parkrun every week as well as taking part in a variety of different races.

Running has changed my life and a lot of people on the Eagles have been very kind to me. From my experiences, I felt that I had a lot to give back and thought I could do this by becoming a leader. It’s fab to see all the new runners from beginners become fully-fledged members of the club and start their own running journey. As a leader, I’m all about having fun and making sure everyone is included. I lead a variety of runs – sometimes steady and sometimes pacier sessions, on which I’m mostly concentrating on breathing!

During the day, I’m a Civil Servant and can be found analysing data and drinking far too much coffee. During my spare time, I spend time with my family and also visiting pubs trying out new craft beers and real ales.
