What spurred you on to create this club?
I am the founder and Chairman of Orchard Eagles Running Club. I created the club because I really wanted to run with like-minded people. Little did I realise at the start of this journey where it would take me! The club has gone – and continues to go – from strength to strength! It’s great to be able to support runners of all abilities, enabling them to feel comfortable and not pressured. I just want people to enjoy running as much as I do.

Why did you start running?
I started running in 2009 as I was struggling with my weight. Needless to say, I have lost quite a bit! I have some interesting ‘before’ photos should you want to see one.

What is your favourite event?
That’s an easy one to answer! It’s the Yorkshire Marathon, of course. I have run every one of them since they started in 2013! The weather at that time of year is so unpredictable: I have run the event in both the heat and in the torrential downpours and flooding that the 2018 race brought us!

Road or trail?
Oh, my favourite terrain is undoubtedly trail! I love it. In fact, the hillier the better!

What is your favourite distance?
Hmm, I think it would have to be 100km. I’ve done a few social runs with my good friend Clive over the distance, and the Hardmoors 60 isn’t far off. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in Race Against the Tide at St. Cuthbert’s Way too, especially since I did it with some fellow Eagles.

What is your greatest achievement?
Without a doubt, my greatest achievement was completing the Hardmoors 110 in 2021. I’d worked hard to increase my distance significantly over the year building up to the race and had done plenty of hills running as groundwork, but nothing could quite prepare me for it – especially with the added heatwave we all had to endure! But I did it!

What is your proudest moment?
Well, that would have to be when I received an award at the 2020 AGM from the Eagles for Services to the Club.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I run in silly 5 fingered shoes, much to the delight (or maybe horror) of many of the club members – especially Solstice Steve! Also, I have a funny little stride.

What’s your day job?
I work at a local builder’s merchant which means I am on my feet all day. Needless to say, this, combined with my running, means I find it very easy to meet my steps goal each day!

Describe your leader’s style?
I like to mix my leader’s role from managing the beginners’ Couch to 5k sessions, right up to 50k runs such as the Summer and Winter Solstice.

Do you have any other hobbies?
No! I haven’t got time for other hobbies!
